Ashtanga Yoga taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is a deeply transformative system of yoga. Different sequences of postures (asana) are linked together with the fluid movements of the sun salutations (surya namaskar). These are practiced with a
meditative rhythmic breath technique (ujjayi pranayama) along with the cultivation of deep core strength (bandhas).
The most personal and individualized way to practice Ashtanga Yoga is in an environment called "Mysore style" classes. This workshop will focus on this particular format and prepare students to attend a Mysore Ashtanga class with a solid primary series foundation. Upon completion of this workshop, special discounts will be offered for the Mysore classes at Berkeley Yoga Center.
