Mysore Practice: One on One with Maty Ezraty

January 5-9, 2015, 7-9 am at the Berkeley Yoga Center, Studio C, $175/ Mysore week

This workshop will emphasize individual one-on-one instruction in the Ashtanga Method. Ashtanga Yoga is a classical method employing a gradual and systematic approach to learning and challenging yourself. The Mysore room is engaging and dynamic and allows you to move at your own pace with teacher supervision. Maty Ezraty is known for her unique approach to Mysore classes that combines her decades of study in both the Ashtanga and Iyengar traditions. Attentive to the correct alignment of every pose, she works to help each student find their way with the practice. She uses props when needed to facilitate greater understanding and is skilled in helping practitioners with common injuries. It is recommended that students attending are familiar with the Ashtanga series (It does not matter where you are in the series!). Practice will be limited to 25 students to assure individual attention. To register, email ayeletevennur@gmail.com

Maty Ezraty is a prominent figure in the evolution of modern yoga. She is known for her dynamic style of teaching, a keen eye for observation and a depth of knowledge that is steeped in years of practice. She was one of the first women to study Ashtanga Yoga intensively with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Maty is also one of the original founders of YogaWorks, where she directed and shaped the YogaWorks Teacher Training program for more than 16 years and trained many of today's leading yoga teachers.

Maty's practice—and consequently her teaching—is steeped in both the Ashtanga and Iyengar traditions. In addition to over 25 years of dedicated Ashtanga practice, Maty has also devoted more than 27 years to studying with many senior Iyengar teachers, including Dona Holleman and Gabriella Giubilaro. Maty has also spent several years studying vipassana meditation at Spirit Rock and the Insight Meditation Society. This unique and broad prospective prioritizes what is most useful and effective in imparting the universal principles that apply to all yoga practices. Revered as a “teacher's teacher,” Maty is known for her joyful, engaging and determined approach to teaching.
